Growth in the use of RFID technologies, while plagued with significant problems, promises to create a significant opportunity for companies properly positioned with viable RFID product. California, represents approximately 10 percent of the US economy and, as such, is expected to provide a proving ground for RFID. The activist nature of California politics and voter access to the initiative process creates an uncertain environment that, once shaken out, could be a bellwether for the rest of North America.
This document investigates the status of RFID activities in California's Silicon Valley.

The report introduces the problems holding back ubiquitous implementation of RFID technologies;

• indicates market size estimates that are so varied that they are surely undependable, but even the smallest estimates indicate an impressive opportunity;
• enumerates 19 Silicon Valley companies currently engaged in RFID technologies, and provides an overview of each companies:

  • market thrusts.

Das vom Fraunhofer eGovernment Zentrum und „Wegweiser" herausgegebene Jahrbuch für Verwaltungsmodernisierung in Deutschland widmet sich dem weiterhin lukrativen Wachstumsmarkt eGovernment in Deutschland. Die im Jahrbuch enthaltene eGovernment-Studie 'Monitoring eGovernment Deutschland 2003/2004' bietet eine differenzierte Analsyse über die derzeitige und zukünftige Entwicklung von eGovernment in Deutschland.

Das Monitoring basiert auf einer im Sommer 2003 durchgeführten Befragung in rund 800 deutschen Verwaltungen in Bund, Ländern, Bezirksregierungen, Landkreisen und Städten. Die Studie dokumentiert Projekte und Entwicklungen in der technologiegestützten Verwaltungsmodernisierung. Der Begriff 'eGovernment' wurde zuvor definiert als 'Abwicklung geschäftlicher Prozesse beim Regieren und Verwalten unter Verwendung von Informations- und Kommunikationstechniken über elektronische Medien.'

Der hohe Rücklauf der Befragung von nahezu 30 Prozent unterstreicht den repräsentativen Charakter der Untersuchung. Erfasst wurden Strategie, Status Quo und Steuerung von eGovernment-Projekten, die Gewichtung und Schwerpunktsetzung, eingesetzte Technologien und Standards, relevante Kooperationen und PPP-Modelle, Investitionsvolumina, Erwartungen und Planungen sowie eingesetzte bzw. zu implementierende Fachanwendungen und Basisdienste.
